Beauty and the Geek

I've never seen this show before (and tuned in for the last episode, so I'm unlikely to work it all out) but the basic premise seems to be that several beautiful girls are matched up with several awkward, geeky guys and... I don't know, there's some element of competition that I haven't worked out. I was watching it thinking, "Clearly they're editing the show to make the girls look as dumb as possible." Then one of the girls, in talking about the whole experience, said, "The sum of the parts is greater than the end product." Okaaay... perhaps not just the editing.
