Another meme (with emphasis on the ME)

Once again I'm doing a meme that Givinya did before me. I'm not sure whether this means she is an awesome leader who must be emulated or I am a brainless sheep who will blindly follow people I've never met in real life. Hmmm. In any case, here goes...

Ten years ago I:
  • Was 28 and unmarried and incredibly stressed about both those things (now I'm 38 and unmarried and quite relaxed about it)
  • Was living in a flat with a massive German cockroach infestation (they're the tiny light brown ones) but wasn't too bothered by it because it was Sydney and cockroaches are a way of life most of the time.
  • Was working in the insurance industry, dealing with high-level complaints like fraud and actually enjoying it.
  • Was very insecure and fearful but covered it up by bustling around on church committees and filling up my time doing things for people.
  • Had a fun flatmate who is still a good friend even though we don't catch up very often these days.
Five things on tomorrow's to-do list:
(I'm going to make it today's to-do list because it's more interesting.)
  • Pay for and pick up 300 sausages.
  • Buy 15 loaves of bread.
  • Cut a hole in the lid of an ice-cream container.
  • Print a sign that says "Battery-operated candles - gold coin donation".
  • Attend my church's kids' Christmas carol event/sausage sizzle (arriving 4 hours before it starts and leaving an hour or more after it finishes... guess who's helping organise it?)
Five snacks I enjoy:
  • Crumpets with butter and honey
  • Corn chips
  • Water crackers with spinach and feta dip
  • BBQ chips
  • Frozen Tim Tams
Five things I would do if I were a millionaire:
  • Buy a small home for me and another small home to rent out cheaply to AFES workers from my local uni.
  • Get my teeth fixed before they fall out (bad, bad genetics in my family)
  • Give money to my church
  • Buy a new car and give my old car to my friends' teenage sons who are learning to drive right now.
  • Buy a cat.
Five places I've lived:
  • Fairfield, New South Wales, Australia
  • Homebush, New South Wales, Australia
  • Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia
  • Carnegie, Victoria, Australia
  • Mount Waverley, Victoria, Australia
...and six other places mixed in between these...

Five jobs I've had:
  • Complaints resolution in two insurance companies - not as bad as it sounds; they were high-level complaints so they were nearly all in writing. I didn't have to deal with many irate people on the phone and I got to use my sleuthing skills to work out what had gone on and whether the company was in the wrong.
  • As a house cleaner while at uni - I actually really enjoyed this job because I only cleaned for friends so it was nice to think they would come home to a sparkling clean house. It was very satisfying to bring order to chaos and make everything look nice and shiny.
  • In the office of a Christian church - where the minister thought God is just a "force" who has no power to act in the world, and Jesus was a political scapegoat who had a few good things to say but really shouldn't be taken seriously. He was a VERY big fan of Francis McNab and John Shelby Spong. I am not.
  • In the office of a bread recycling plant - they recycle leftover bread from bakeries, supermarkets, bread factories etc into animal feed, and the plastic bags get recycled into builders' plastic. Bread dust was everywhere, even in the office, so the place was always filthy. And then there were the rats...
  • In the office of a Christian church - a different one this time, where all the staff are delightful and where God is glorified and Jesus proclaimed. I love working there.
And that's it from me. Boy, I love doing these things... apparently I am my favourite topic of conversation...

Interesting! I think you and I would like/dislike the same sorts of pastors!

I get a little thrill thinking I was there in actual proximity for about half of this. I also feel a little sad I was not somehow a better friend to you... I am marvelling at the strides you take in your life; a the schedule the Lord has for you.

@ D.M - you were indeed; and you were there for most of the rest of it even when you weren't in close geographical proximity.

I've never thought you needed to be a better friend to me. I've always felt blessed to count you a friend... and now I'm doubly blessed to count the very lovely Mrs Cornish as my friend also. The fact that we've only seen each other face to face a handful of times is entirely irrelevant; friendship is portable.

It's great to get to know a little more about you.

I think we would also like the same ministers. I get worried sometimes within my own church, but until God lets me go I'm stuck.
