Veges in captivity

I don't seem to be missing any more vegetables this morning, but neither does the rat bait look nibbled so it may be that the vege thief had the night off last night. The whole thing is starting to drive me a little nuts - I've gone beyond mild annoyance and I'm edging towards Crazy Lady. Any minute now I'll be behaving like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. It's just one nibbled cucumber away...

I can't even work out exactly where the animal is getting in. This is what the garden looks like with the net - okay, it's not perfect but there aren't that many spots to crawl in. The edges are attached to a variety of pipes and protuberances in order to leave a minimum of access points.

I've also resorted to the mothball method, which apparently keeps possums away. My garden has stopped smelling like Vaporub and now smells like your grandmother's wardrobe. I imagine if I'm really lucky the snow peas, as they grow, will twist themselves around and possibly through the mothball holder, so I'll be growing the world's first mothball flavoured snow peas. I can't even guess where the market would be for those.

And here's the rat bait. Intact. Completely intact; not even nibbled.

I'm not obsessed. Truly, I'm not. And on another matter entirely... does anyone know where I can buy some camoflage and some small land mines?

How big are the holes in the netting? Do you suppose a mouse could get through it? I had a pet rat and he could squeese through very tight spaces--but certainly mice can as well. I hope the moth ball odor will detour the little critter that's tormenting you.

Oh yeah, a mouse could definitely get through. I don't even want to THINK about rats. Yuck. It's bird netting, designed to keep away birds (obviously) and possums.

Oh well... it's something to entertain my days... :)

Wow - you are definitely taking it to the rats now!

And second wow - you have updated you profile with a photo - here I was thinking you were a flower and all the time you were a real girl :) with long dark hair by the look of it - what good taste you have :)

Hehe - I found the sepia function on my camera so thought I'd have a go at the brooding, arty shot.

ps... I also have blue eyes. Maybe you and I are twins??

love the broody art shot. It is a nice photo.

It is very possible that we are twins - separated at birth! I think you got all the green thumb genes because I killed more herbs this week:(

Thanks - the only problem with the arty shot is that you can't see that my glasses (this pair, at least) are red. RED! I love them so much. :)

I only have a semi-green thumb; I simply conveniently "forget" to blog about the plants I kill.

You remind me of Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh.

They need only the smallest wee hole to get in and out, really. Sneaky buggers.

And with one post you've been added to ASIO's "Watch List". Or am I being alarmed, rather than alert?

And would you believe that I didn't notice that you'd updated your photo? Good thing your other readers are more observant than I am.
